BORDERS: Namibia
officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in
Southern Africa. Its western border is the Atlantic
Ocean. It shares land borders with Zambia and Angola
to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to
the south and east. Although it does not border
Zimbabwe, less than 200 meters of the Botswana right
bank of the Zambezi River separates the two countries.
Namibia gained independence from South Africa on 21
March 1990, following the Namibian War of
Independence. Its capital and largest city is
Windhoek. Namibia is a member state of the United
Nations (UN), the Southern African Development
Community (SADC), the African Union (AU) and the
Commonwealth of Nations. Geographically,
Namibia is divided into three major regions, the Namib
Desert, the Central Plateau and the Kalahari Desert.
The Namib Desert is in the western part of the
country, stretching approximately 1,400 km along the
Atlantic coast. Its width varies between 97 and 160
kin.
Interesting story: There are a lot of
deserts. One of the most famous is the Namib Desert.
There many years ago, people came and settle there.
Now you are asking why. Well, one day a minor found a
diamond and then there were a lot more. So the people
went there to grew their fortune and for better live.
Everything was okay until the diamonds end. The villagers had no
sense to stay there so they gone and the desert became
deserted. Also Namibia is named after this desert. Can
you imagine that there were diamonds and they were a
lot and now there is no people? |
